The Allen-Bradley 1747-FC Ferrite Collar is an electromagnetic noise suppression accessory specifically designed for programmable controller systems, particularly within the SLC 500 platform. It is primarily used on RS-232 communication cables to minimize the impact / high-frequency electrical noise that can interfere with data transmission and controller operation.
In industrial environments where variable frequency drives, contactors, relays, and high-power equipment operate nearby, communication lines are /ten exposed to EMI and RFI disturbances. The 1747-FC ferrite collar addresses this challenge by attenuating unwanted high-frequency signals while allowing normal data communication to pass unaffected.
The device is non-intrusive, requires no configuration, and can be installed quickly by clamping it around the target cable. Its passive design ensures long-term reliability with zero maintenance, making it an effective safeguard for communication stability in automation systems.
